Packfall: playing with your dog, and staying alive
Updated 16 October 2026
Every operator in Packfall drops in with a companion dog, and the players who win are usually the ones who use it. This guide covers the dog first, then everything else that decides a match: the drop, the loot, the weapons, the safe zone and the Arena.

Your companion
The dog is not decoration. Used well it wins fights for you; ignored, it is a target the other side will happily take out.
- Send it (Q): aim at an enemy within about 85 metres and press Q. The dog runs them down and pins them, which stops them fighting back properly. Send it, then shoot.
- Recall it (V): call it back before it takes too much damage. A dog that comes home is a dog you can send again.
- Fetch or guard (B): on fetch, the dog brings you ammunition during the fight; on guard, it stays with you and picks up anyone who comes within 32 metres. Fetch when you are pushing, guard when you are holding a building.
- Revive it (hold F): a wounded dog gets back up on its own, but staying beside it and holding F halves the time. Stay close until it stands.
When two dogs meet, it becomes a contest of its own. Staggering the other operator's dog, with your shots or your own dog, is how you win it, and it leaves that operator alone against two of you.
The drop
A match starts on the transport. The ramp opens a few seconds into the flight and you have the rest of it to choose your moment. Jump, glide, and steer for a rooftop or open ground. Pick the spot before you jump: a rooftop gets you into a building and its crates quickly, while open ground lets you see who else is coming down.
Looting
Hold F to open a supply cache, and press E to pick up what is on the ground. You carry two weapons (switch with 1 and 2), and Tab opens your inventory, where you can drop a weapon for a teammate. Look for:
- Armour: each piece adds armour, up to a maximum of 50. It soaks damage before your health does.
- Medkits: H heals 75 health over a few seconds. Use them behind cover, not in the open.
- Smoke grenades: G throws one. Smoke is for crossing open ground, reviving your dog or breaking line of sight, not for winning gunfights.
- Elite supply drops arrive by air and are marked on the map. The loot is the best in the match, and everyone nearby knows it is there.
The six weapons
Every operator can find every gun in any crate.
- Ranger AR: the balanced assault rifle. Good at most ranges; a safe first pick.
- Kestrel SMG: very fast fire, weaker at range. Brilliant inside buildings.
- Ridge DMR: semi-automatic precision rifle with heavy hits and long range.
- Breacher 12: an eight-pellet shotgun that ends close fights in one or two shots and does little beyond them.
- Bastion LMG: a sixty-round support gun. Long reload, but it keeps a whole team's heads down.
- Longwatch SR: the sniper rifle, with the longest range and the biggest hit in the game, and five rounds a magazine.
Three attachments fit any of them: a field optic for sharper zoom and a little more range, a recoil stabilizer that cuts bullet spread by 40%, and an extended magazine with half as many rounds again, at the cost of a slower reload. A good pairing is one gun for close range and one for long, so you are never caught with the wrong tool.
The safe zone
A little after the drop, the safe zone starts to close, and the storm outside it hurts. The map (M) shows the zone, recent hostile gunfire and anything your dog has spotted. Move early and along cover rather than late and in the open: the last players into the zone are the ones everybody else is watching for.
Battles and battlegrounds
Standard battles hold 32 operators; Chaos holds 64. There are three battlegrounds: Verdant Reach, temperate and green; Scorch Basin, an arid desert; and Frostline Ridge, high alpine ground. Play solo or in a duo: create a duo, share the code with a friend, and you queue together on the same team.
Arena
Arena is six-a-side team play at the Kennel Complex, with respawns and no dogs. It has its own loadouts, levels and unlocks, and your loadout returns every time you respawn.
- Pack Hunt (team deathmatch): the first pack to 50 eliminations wins. Stay together and push together.
- Retrieve the Standard (capture the flag): steal the rival pack's standard and carry it to your home flag. First to three captures wins.
- Hold the Kennels (domination): capture and hold the Kennel Run, the Field Workshop and the Rescue Relay. A contested site stops scoring, so one teammate standing on an enemy point is worth a lot.
Training and progress
Rook Training Camp has a shooting range with every weapon, an agility course against the clock, and a companion corral for practising sending, recalling and reviving your dog. It is the best place to learn the dog before you need it.
Three daily field orders change at midnight UTC, and twenty commendations reward everything from reviving your dog to recovering elite drops. Outfits, weapon finishes and dog coats are all earned by playing, and all of them are cosmetic. Online, bots fill any places nobody has taken; you can also practise against bots on your own.
