Voidlance is a vertical scrolling shooter set in Sector Zero, built around three weapon modes and five bosses that each demand a different one. The weapons are spread, ripple and refract, and the game switches between them rather than upgrading through them - spread for clearing a screen of small craft, ripple for punching through something armoured, refract for the awkward angles. Reading which one a section wants is more useful than raw reflexes. Three zones set the pace. The Orbital Graveyard is wreckage and drifting hulls; the Crimson Bio-Reef is organic and grows into your path; the Ion Storm Corridor is the one that makes you earn it. Each ends with a boss - Warden MK-II, Carrion Bloom, Stormcaller, Foundry Titan and finally Nexus Sovereign - and the bosses are pattern fights rather than damage races. They can be learned. Shields absorb, overdrive buys you a window of heavier fire, and the nova is the panic button you will wish you had saved. It is built for landscape and will ask you to turn your device before it starts.

How to play
Arrow keys or WASD to fly, or drag with a finger on a touchscreen. Fire is automatic while held. Switch weapon modes between spread, ripple and refract to suit what is in front of you. Save the nova for when the screen is genuinely full - it clears it. Play in landscape.
