You are the loading screen
A game about waiting, in which reaching 100% is not the same as winning.

You Are The Loading Screen is a short experimental game that begins by pretending to be a loading bar for a game called UNTITLED PROJECT, and then declines to be one. There is an asset manifest of seven files to bring in - CHARACTERS.pak, ENVIRONMENT.pak, PHYSICS.dll, ENEMIES.pak, MEMORIES.dat, SOUND.bnk and one more - and some of them arrive corrupt. You can purge a corrupt asset, which keeps the process clean and deletes whatever was inside it. Delete the characters and the cast list is blank. Delete the sound and it gets very quiet. The game notices. There is also a barrier holding at 100% that you can reinforce, and the reason it needs reinforcing becomes clear at about the point you stop thinking of this as a loading screen. The sound is generated rather than recorded, and headphones are genuinely the right way to play it - a good deal of what the game is doing is in the audio. It takes about ten minutes and it is the strangest thing on the site. The title is not a metaphor.

How to play
Press any direction to move; the game teaches the rest as it goes. Purge corrupt assets to keep the load clean - but read what you are deleting first. Reinforce the barrier when it needs it. Headphones recommended: the sound is procedural and carries a lot of the game.
